So often I hear, “We’re so awkward in front of the camera!” And honestly? I get it. Being in front of a lens doesn’t always feel natural—especially when you’re being told to hold stiff poses that don’t feel like you.
That’s why I use prompts instead of poses. My approach is relaxed, candid, and full of movement. I’ll give you a gentle suggestion, and you get to run with it in whatever way feels right. The goal isn’t perfection—it’s connection.
Here are five of my go-to prompts to bring out real smiles, real laughs, and real love:
Even if they already know, this one never fails. I’ve heard Cookie Monster talk about protein shakes and toddlers-at-heart whispering about Pop-Tarts. It’s weird, it’s goofy, and it works.
I usually start sessions with this to break the ice. The smiles aren’t forced—they’re genuine reactions to each other being adorable goofballs.
This one brings out movement and playfulness. I’m a sucker for those golden hour walking shots, and this prompt adds just enough action to keep things natural.
It also works great for those wide, scenic shots—just the two of you, chatting and giggling while I hang back and catch the moment.
This one brings the energy back up mid-session and usually gets us a solid combo of laughter and tenderness.
One of my favorite photos ever was from this prompt: my friend Raiko on a swing, full-on belly-laughing as her husband ran up and hugged her. It’s playful, affectionate, and totally real.
The fake laugh is always bad. That’s the point.
What comes right after is gold—genuine giggles and natural smiles that you could never fake on cue. I love using this one early on to loosen everyone up.
I usually end sessions with this. After all the prompts and photos, this is your moment to breathe.
Sometimes couples snuggle, sometimes they talk, sometimes they just stand still together—and those are some of the most magical images. Quiet, emotional, real.
Every couple is different, and I always adapt the prompts to match your vibe. If you’re silly, we’ll be silly. If you’re chill, we’ll keep it calm and cozy.
These prompts are just tools to help you forget the camera is even there—so I can capture you, exactly as you are, right now.
I’m currently offering $75 off couples sessions through September. Whether you’re celebrating an engagement, anniversary, or just want some updated photos with your person—I’d love to be part of that.

Have a question or want to say hi? I’d love to hear from you.
