As a photographer interested in shooting weddings, one of the best ways to build content is by attending styled shoots. Kate at Styled Collective Co has been putting on beautiful styled shoots throughout the year, and I joined her for this styled elopement at Cannon Beach. An added bonus of these events is the chance to connect with other local photographers!
Styled shoots are such a great way for photographers to practice, experiment, and create inspiration for real couples. Because I was just getting started with weddings and wanted to expand my couples portfolio, this shoot gave me the perfect opportunity to practice posing, get creative, and hone my craft.
Truly, the Oregon Coast is iconic in every way – but pairing Cannon Beach with Hug Point allowed me to capture both adventurous and romantic vibes.
To create a true elopement feel, our models Nicole + Christian (a real married couple) dressed in full wedding attire – Nicole in a stunning gown from Clair De Lune and Christian in a classic suit. Kate also set up an incredible flat lay station complete with invitations, rings, and florals from Ps. I Do Florals, which tied the story together beautifully.
Two moments stand out to me as favorites. The first is an editorial, posed shot at Hug Point: Nicole dipped gracefully while her train was tossed behind her, all framed by the drama of the sunset. The second is a more candid, prompted moment – Christian simply admiring Nicole as she played with her dress. Those contrasts are what I love: mixing candid wedding photography with a touch of editorial style.
Hug Point, just south of Cannon Beach, offers a completely different feel from the famous Haystack Rock. Its cliffs, caves, and small waterfall add unique variety to coastal photos. At golden hour, the cliffs glow and create such a striking backdrop.
One of my favorite compositions was pulling back to capture Nicole + Christian against the wide expanse of cliffs with the water flowing beneath them – it felt cinematic, the perfect mix of Oregon adventure and romance.
One of the best parts of attending a styled shoot is working with so many talented people. This one was a collaboration of:
Although this was a styled shoot rather than a real elopement, the photos speak for themselves: the Oregon Coast is one of the most stunning places you could choose for a wedding, elopement, or couples session. Cannon Beach offers the iconic Haystack Rock views, while Hug Point brings cliffs, waterfalls, and adventure.
