When the Pacific Northwest weather doesn’t cooperate (which, let’s be honest, is most of the year), having great studio options for indoor sessions is essential. As a Portland photographer, I’ve shot at several studios around the city and have my favorites depending on what kind of session you’re planning. Whether you’re looking for a cozy space for family photos, a romantic setting for couples, an intimate backdrop for boudoir or bridal portraits, or a beautiful space for maternity sessions, these Portland area studios offer gorgeous options.

Studio Northwest in Northwest Portland is one of my go-to spaces for its incredible versatility. The studio features beautiful windows that flood the space with natural light, making it perfect for achieving that soft, dreamy look I love. What really sets this studio apart is the variety it offers: plenty of furniture for different styling options, two movable walls that let you completely change the feel of your session, and backdrop paper for classic, timeless portraits.
I’ve shot several sessions here and love how adaptable the space is. Whether you want a bright, airy feel or something more intimate and moody, Studio Northwest can deliver. It works beautifully for family sessions, couples portraits, and maternity photos.
Best for: Family sessions, couples, maternity

If I had to pick a favorite, it would be Indigo + Spruce in Northeast Portland. This studio has so much character and warmth. The loft features a bed that’s perfect for intimate couples sessions and boudoir photography, while downstairs you’ll find two comfortable couches and a fun brick wall that adds texture and urban charm to photos. But the real showstopper is the gorgeous mirror, which creates stunning reflection shots and adds an elegant touch to portraits.
The vibe at Indigo + Spruce feels homey and romantic at the same time. It’s my top choice for boudoir sessions, anniversary photos, and intimate couples portraits where you want that cozy, lived-in aesthetic.
Best for: Boudoir, couples, intimate sessions

The Ivie Loft in Oregon City is the cutest space for families with kids. I’ve used this studio for Christmas mini sessions and it’s absolutely perfect for holiday photos and family sessions. The studio features two rooms with lots of different sets already styled and ready to go, which is amazing for keeping kids engaged and getting variety without leaving one location.
What really makes The Ivie Loft special is the natural light throughout the entire space. No matter which room or set you’re using, the lighting is beautiful and consistent. For families looking for festive holiday photos or adorable setups for kids, this studio delivers.

Cream Creative Space in Northwest Portland offers a clean, modern aesthetic that’s perfect for maternity and couples sessions. The studio features a movable seamless wall that gives you that classic, editorial look, plus a fun arch wall that adds architectural interest to portraits. The windows provide beautiful natural light that works wonderfully for soft, romantic images.
I’ve shot maternity sessions here and love how the space photographs. The neutral tones and clean lines make your subjects the focus, while still giving you interesting backdrops to work with. It’s a great option if you want a more minimalist, contemporary feel for your photos.

Let’s face it, Portland weather is unpredictable. Indoor studio sessions give you gorgeous, professional photos without worrying about rain, wind, or freezing temperatures. Studios also offer:
Consistency: Controlled lighting means your photos will turn out beautifully regardless of the weather outside.
Comfort: Especially important for maternity sessions, newborn photos, or family sessions with young kids. Everyone stays warm and dry. If you’re nervous about how you’ll feel in front of the camera, don’t worry! I use specific prompts to help every couple feel relaxed and natural.
Versatility: These studios offer multiple looks and backdrops in one location, giving you variety without traveling to different outdoor spots.
Year-round availability: No need to wait for summer or worry about scheduling around Portland’s rainy season.
When choosing a studio for your session, think about the vibe you’re going for. Want something cozy and intimate? Indigo + Spruce is perfect. Looking for clean and modern? Try Cream Creative Space. Need kid-friendly setups? The Ivie Loft has you covered. Want maximum versatility? Studio Northwest offers the most options.
