Sarah and Adam’s Cannon Beach engagement session was full of wind, golden light, playful moments, and their two dogs. See why the Oregon Coast is one of the best places for engagement photos.

Sarah and Adam’s engagement session felt like the perfect mix of laid-back and meaningful. They wanted photos that captured this chapter of life exactly as it is right now – the two of them, their dogs, and the quiet kind of love built in everyday moments. Their connection is easy to see. They balance each other so well, bringing both steady comfort and playful energy wherever they go.
Set against the beautiful Oregon Coast, their session was full of movement, laughter, and the kind of candid moments that feel the most real. With wide open scenery and their pups along for the adventure, it was the perfect setting to document a season they know they’ll always look back on fondly. If you’re dreaming of a Cannon Beach engagement session or Oregon Coast couples photos, this is exactly why I love photographing there.

Sarah and Adam are the kind of couple who make life together look effortless. They’re a mix of adventurous and homebody – equally happy taking trips to the coast with their dogs or spending the weekend tackling errands, projects, and whatever life throws their way.
What they love most about each other says everything. Sarah admires Adam’s work ethic and the way he can teach himself to do just about anything. Adam loves Sarah’s kindness, caring heart, and how deeply she loves their dogs. Together, they’ve built a relationship rooted in teamwork, loyalty, and a lot of love.
As they prepare for their wedding day, they’re most excited to celebrate with the people closest to them and step into the future they’ve been building side by side.
We picked an incredibly windy day for their session. Sarah and Adam traveled down to Cannon Beach from their home in Washington State to do a few wedding things, so we decided to get their engagement photos done while they were visiting. Sarah and Adam were such good sports about the wind, and we embraced it as often as we could.
We focused a lot on movement and working with the wind instead of against it. We walked, laughed, held each other close, and leaned into whatever the moment gave us. I even managed to snag a few photos with birds flying in the background (IYKYK).
Of course, they had to bring the pups out for a few photos as well. Bailey and Bodie absolutely stole the show. Pro tip for any future clients reading this… I LOVE DOGS. Please bring them to your sessions.
Sarah and Adam’s session was at the end of March, right at the beginning of spring, and we truly lucked out with the weather. Even though it was windy, that golden hour light was just perfect. We also decided we’d had enough of the wind for a minute, so we watched the sunset together without taking any photos.
There’s something about the Oregon Coast – and especially Cannon Beach – that just feels so romantic.
Cannon Beach specifically has the best of both worlds: dreamy beach scenery with grass dunes, plus wooded areas with a view when Ecola State Park isn’t closed due to storm damage… IYKYK again.
There’s really no bad time to take photos at the coast. I’ve photographed sessions in full sun, overcast skies, and even rain. I had a session last August that was fully foggy. Morning or evening sessions are best for avoiding harsh afternoon sun, and spring and summer usually give you the best sunsets.
The coast is my favorite place in the world, so if any of my couples want photos there, I’m always down.
I’m a big believer in wearing something that you’re comfortable in, and Sarah did just that. She said she normally wears all black and feels comfortable in it, so that’s exactly what she wore.
Sarah’s black dress and jean jacket paired perfectly with Adam’s dark gray flannel and jeans. Their outfits didn’t distract from the gorgeous scenery of Cannon Beach and really allowed me to focus on them.
Sarah and Adam are tying the knot in Cannon Beach this September, and I cannot wait for their special day.
