Moody Editorial Engagement Photos at The Arc Light | Madison + McKenzie

Madison Brockman | Rain & Reverie Photography

When Madison told me she wanted their engagement session at The Arc Light in Oregon City, I was completely on board. She wanted moody, editorial, and a little dramatic – and that is my love language. When a couple comes in knowing what they want, it makes everything so much easier, and these photos are proof of that.

The Session

This session felt so easy – Madison and McKenzie have been together for several years and their connection is so sweet. We were really going for that elevated, editorial look. Most of the photos were posed, but we made sure to add in some candid moments too.

One of my favorite photos from this session was actually Madison’s idea – her lying on the couch with her head in McKenzie’s lap. The bridal suite was just the perfect spot for it. The light inside was beautiful, and both the color and black and white photos look incredible.

Some of my other favorites happened in the groom’s suite and the bar area, where we used flash. It’s so fun to bring in flash to add a pop of light in darker spaces and really highlight the couple.

About The Arc Light Oregon City

Madison and McKenzie wanted an outdoor wedding, so they chose The Preserve for their big day. For their engagement session though, they loved The Arc Light in Oregon City. You can rent the space by the hour, so that’s exactly what we did!

There are four main spaces: the bridal suite, the groom’s suite, the ballroom, and the bar. Each one gives you something totally different – the bridal suite is clean and bright, the groom’s suite is dark and moody. The ballroom is warm and airy thanks to the wooden floors, and the bar is a great flex space. Pro tip: the same company owns the bar downstairs. Book on a day they’re open and you can shoot down there too!”

This venue is especially great for fall and winter sessions when the weather isn’t cooperating and you don’t want a typical studio environment. But it works any time of year if you want indoor photos that give off those old-money vibes. Everything about this space feels so elevated that it’s genuinely hard to take a bad photo here.

What They Wore

McKenzie wore a suit and Madison was in the most gorgeous white dress. Both looks suited this space perfectly and really elevated the overall feel of the session. The outfits played beautifully against the variety of backdrops throughout the venue. In the darker spaces, the flash made everything pop. For an indoor editorial session like this one, dressing up a little truly goes a long way.

I cannot wait to photograph their wedding this June! If you’re newly engaged and looking for a Portland or Oregon engagement photographer, I would love to chat. Whether you’re dreaming of something outdoors in the PNW or an indoor Arc Light Oregon City session like this one, I’m here for it.
